A Year Of Difference: Reflecting on our 2019 Community Outreach

Posted: January 3, 2020 in Profed in the Community

As 2019 comes to a close, we are thankful to look back on an unbelievable year. ProFed worked hard to make a difference in the community, impacting lives, and helping to shape the places we live, work, and play. Our local credit union is proud to support Fort Wayne and the surrounding areas. Check out a recap of our community outreach efforts throughout 2019.

Community Events

ProFed had the opportunity to sponsor a variety of organizations and their corresponding events over this past year. From parades and festivals to concerts and charity races, along with events benefiting the youth, we are proud to support an extensive range of activities in our community. To top it all off, we even began partnerships with a few of our local sports teams, including the Ivy Tech Titans and Fort Wayne Mad Ants.

We had so much fun sponsoring the annual Family Fun Day at the Three Rivers Festival, where balloon animals and temporary face tattoos were a hit amongst the families who came out to Headwaters Park to join in on the fun. The North Anthony Corridor Block Party was another favorite where we were able to celebrate the fantastic community in our very own backyard.

We supported charity races that shed light on different causes such as the Passages 5K Run, the Riley Run, and ProFed Bike 101 Lakes Ride, which benefited the Arts and Humanities Fund of northeast Indiana. We sponsored gourmet dinners, including Ivy Tech's A Reason to Taste event, which supported the college's culinary program students. We also sponsored elegant galas such as Restore Your Passion benefiting Habitat for Humanity and the Hip to Snip Fur-ball Bash, benefiting Hope for Animals.

Musical sponsorships included the Kehoe Summer Concert Series in Bluffton and Botanical Roots Outdoor Concert Series in Fort Wayne. We were also a part of the Taste of Kendallville, Callithumpian Parade in Decatur, DeKalb County Fair, Bluffton Street Fair, Auburn Trunk or Treat, United Way Diaper Drive in Columbia City, Blue Jacket's Fantasy of Lights, Ouabache State Park Wonderland of Lights, Windmill Winter Wonderland in Kendallville, Parlor City Christmas in Bluffton, and many more.

ProFed is a big fan of sports, especially our teams locally. Through our Mad Ants partnership, we started the ProFed Ants Awareness in Action program highlighting local non-profits at every Mad Ants home game and raising awareness for the organizations. One of the goals of the program is to help our local non-profits teach our community about their mission and open the door to serving opportunities that will help make an impact right here in Fort Wayne and all over northeastern Indiana. We are excited to see the program grow and support our non-profits in a big way. Learn more about ProFed Ants Awareness in Action here

Volunteering

Our valued partnerships, combined with our internal team’s support, help drive our community outreach year after year.

One of our favorite volunteer days is our annual cleanup day, which took place at the Fort Wayne Children's Zoo this year, preparing the zoo staff for the start of their season. We helped mulch, rake, plant trees, shrubbery, and tidy up areas saving the team at the zoo at least a week worth of work.

We also volunteered our time hosting two free electronic recycling days open to the community to better Fort Wayne and the surrounding areas we live. With over 52,000 pounds of electronics collected from our recycling efforts, we have decided to make this an ongoing event. We partnered with OmniSource to recycle over 4,000 lbs of lead that otherwise would be accidentally landfilled. We encourage all community residents to participate in our upcoming recycling days because recycling unwanted electronics in our home helps prevent environmental pollution and preserve vital resources.

An unforgettable and every bit of educational, volunteer opportunity was Women’s Build Day benefiting Habitat for Humanity. Handfuls of women from ProFed took time out of their workdays to get their hands dirty and perform various tasks of building a home such as installing soffit and siding, laying flooring, and learning the ropes of a circular saw.

ProFed is proud of our incredible team, who has shown support in our communities by volunteering hundreds of hours over the past year to create a lasting impact in northeastern Indiana.

Let’s celebrate the new partnerships, incredible support system, and the immeasurable differences every one of us made to help impact our community in 2019. Here’s to moving the needle even further in 2020!
